Songs of Catullus

The work is a cycle of settings, in Latin, of poems by the Roman poet Catullus (born around 84 BC). It was commissioned by Concordia Singers in 2012 to mark their 50th anniversary and first performed on June 22nd 2013.

Songs of Catullus is scored for SATB, soprano solo and chamber ensemble (flute, oboe, timp, glock, harp, organ, cello) or small orchestra.

Duration: 35 minutes

As the first performance was to take place in a concert alongside the Rutter Requiem, Songs of Catullus was designed from the start not only to share the same requirements in terms of forces, but also to occupy a musical language and emotional space which would allow it to sit comfortably in the same progamme.
